Deuce Vaughn’s unforgettable NFL debut in his career

Deuce Vaughn’s preseason debut at AT&T Stadium on Saturday afternoon lived up to the expectation and then some, as the 5-foot-5 playmaker played the bulk of the second half at running back and flourished with his opportunity.

Vaughn scored his first touchdown while accounting for 56 total yards, capping a drive in which he received eight touches and contributed for 39 yards.

The score erupted in “Deuce” cheers at his new home stadium, ushering in a prodigy in Arlington.

“It’s hard to put it into words, man,” Vaughn admitted. “I can’t take all of the credit; those guys up front were blocking their buttocks the entire game.” To get in the end zone in the first preseason game is a credit to all of the hard work that has gone into the team since the draft.”

Vaughn stated previously in training camp that proving people incorrect about his size will always be a part of his tale, and he added another chapter to that story on Saturday.

“Just that I belong,” he remarked of his accomplishment. “I feel like that’s the most important thing for me coming in, just proving to the people who believe in me that they’re right.” It’s not over yet. We return to work on Monday and prepare for the next preseason game.”

Vaughn’s first major moment came on a second down around midfield, when he discovered a crease and used fast cuts and deceptive physicality to make a pair of defenders miss.

“Great blocking,” he said, referring to what went well. “It got me to the second level quickly, which is where I excel.” It’s difficult to explain into words, but whenever you have a safety one-on-one, I like myself.”

That play roused the audience, and the energy remained high every time Vaughn touched the ball after that.

Despite the obvious shift in energy, Vaughn insists that he has somehow blocked it all out.

“I never notice the audience when I’m playing,” he laughed. “I’m so focused, but knowing that support is available is huge.” Tonight’s crowd was electrifying.”

Vaughn can now move on with a certain amount of expectation for the speed of the NFL after his preseason debut.

“A lot of confidence,” he added of his newfound assurance. “When you’re about to play your first NFL game, it’s a question mark.” It’s not college, and you’re wondering if you can go fast enough to be successful. It boosts my confidence while also reminding me that this is just a preseason game.”

Despite his strong debut in only one half of action, Vaughn will return to Oxnard looking to improve not only his huge plays, but also his blunders.

“There were a couple of things I kind of wanted back,” he admitted. “That’s what practice is for, getting back into the grind of it in the work of the week and getting ready for the next preseason game.”
